Confederation of Iranian Students (CIS)

Confederation of Iranian Students (CIS) is a pro western independent student movement group that was officially launched on November 2002 with a number of students and political activists inside and outside of Iran with the leadership of Amir Abbas Fakhravar, jailed dissident, writer, and award winning journalist.  Arzhang Davoodi, teacher and writer, Political activist, currently serving a 15 year sentence in Evin Prison. Iman Samizadeh, student activist, and  Payman Aref, student activist, currently serving a six year sentence for his political activities.

CIS has more than 4000 members inside and outside of Iran.  CIS is dedicated to promote freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran.  CIS also strives to empower the will and the confidence of young Iranians, build team work, and educate students on freedom of expression, freedom of press, and freedom of religion.

CIS is active in a number of universities and college campuses of Iran.  Since there is no freedom of press and most of the websites are filtered, many of the CIS members in Iran use their weblogs to communicate with one another.

CIS also has a large presence in many countries of Europe and North America.  CIS members work closely with Amnesty International and other human rights organizations to bring the latest news about the situation of political prisoners and executions in Iran.

CIS held its first leadership summit in August of 2008 in Frankfurt, Germany. The team discussed the current activities of the group and set the agenda for the upcoming events.

Our Purpose

To promote unity among both Iranian and non-Iranian students and youth who seek to help, draw notice, or further the cause of our fellow human beings struggling for freedom and dignity inside Iran.
